I know i've mentioned waiter closet and his upcoming wedding. It happened over a month ago, and i've finally decided to post a few things about it.
Overall it was a nice wedding, but the money that was involved in this thing is amazing. I've never been to a wedding like this. Very upscale and I couldn't help but feel like the farm girl that I am.
First, let's begin with the invite. Plain invite, but it didn't say "& guest" I was a little surprised at this considering that WC was talking about how much this wedding was costing her parents (that's right, her parents paid for almost the whole thing)and blah blah blah, but I wasn't allowed a date because I wasn't in a serious relationship or engaged. Gee, thanks for making me feel good about myself. I usually don't take dates to weddings if I know others that will be there. And if it's something where it's extremely small and money is an issue I don't think twice. However, for this one, the money that was spent, I was surprised. I kinda sorta knew his sisters but that was about it. And since there weren't going to be any single guys there, I figured I would end up standing around and drinking alot.
So the rehearsal dinner came very quickly. WC elected me to do a reading, and didn't really ask me. How do you tell someone no? I'm too nice of a person. That's probably why I have four bridesmaids dresses in my closet. I had no idea what I was reading, they never got the selection to me. I was able to read the first four lines during the rehearsal, it had something to do with wild animals and wild birds. It was an entire page, let me just say I struggled through the entire reading on their day. I really appreciated that. Really.
The wedding was the usual catholic hubbub, lasting about a hour. Afterwards was the reception. I couldn't figure out where the money went until I showed up to the country club. Ok, so country club cost - check.
Sit down dinner - check.
Ice bar (literally made out of ice) - check.Band - check.

They even did a freaking 30 minute fireworks display. I'm not built for something like this.
Give me a keg, some little old ladies making the usual chicken, mashed potatoes, etc. and i'm all set.
Two things of note: Nothing says "fashion victim" like a woman in her 50's wearing a teal and lime green dress from the junior section. Even better? THE SHOES.
You guess it. Those are shells on the back of her shoes. I was in shock that a woman her age would wear that dress and those shoes. Wow.
The best part of this whole experience was when a groomsman requested a Madonna song for WC. He's obsessed with her. They knew the song Holiday but that was about it. When the band started playing it, WC just HAD to get on the stage and sing the whole song. His family standing in the front cheering him on, while her family stood in the back mortified.
Overall, this was an event to remember. I'm not sure if it was just me, but the vibe wasn't all sunshine and roses. Her side of the family seemed very hesitant during the reception. Maybe they are thinking what i'm thinking - I give them 5 years. It's sad, but true. I think his lack of financial stability will catch up to these love birds. I wish them luck, their marriage is not going to be easy.
